Fast Girls a delight

There are some fast girls performing in New Plymouth’s Vogeltown.

The New Plymouth Repertory Society kicked off its season of the play of that name in promising fashion on Thursday night.

Directed by Sharren Read and using the brilliant script by American Diana Amsterdam, Fast Girls is set in an apartment in Manhattan, although this interpretation sticks with Kiwi accents.

Lucy Lewis, played by Taryn Utiger, is a divorcee in her 30s, enjoying her freedom and nights on the town with young single men.

But her carefree lifestyle attracts the consternation of her visiting mother Mitzi, played by Christine King, and the envy of her best friend Abigail (Stacy Manketlow).

Meanwhile, there are plenty of unresolved issues with her former boyfriend Sidney (Nathan Eriwata).

The demands on four characters to carry a dialogue-heavy performance is never easy, but the lines are so witty that the flow will pick up as the cast relax into their roles
