Thriving on alternative

Some enticing new performers have been added to the bill for the fourth annual Port Eliot Lit Fest, the alternative arts festival taking place in the magnificent grounds of the ancient stately home of Lord St Germans in an East Cornwall village by the River Tamar over the weekend of July 21 to 23.
Known as the literary festival where authors are encouraged to do anything but read from their books, it’s the quirkiest event on the Westcountry summer calendar, which is entirely in keeping with the venue’s history as the home of the legendary Elephant Fayres.
This year’s festival will see Hanif Kureshi perform; Arthur Smith’s extraordinary tour of the grounds; Alain de Botton unveiling architectural plans for his Philosopher’s Hut; Kevin Sampson and Helen Walsh on the anniversary of the Toxteth riots; Mick Brown talking about Marvin Gaye and Chris Salewicz showing a visual version of his new Joe Strummer biography; and Fiona Banner painting a male nude word-portrait. Number one bestselling author of The Farm Richard Benson will be running a cheese stall, and an exhibition of photographs of the Port Eliot house interiors by photographic artist Martin Parr will be on display in the basement.
Barbara Hulanicki of Biba will have her own tent – Biba Ba Lula (She’s My Baby) – and will dress festival-goers in recycled materials and lace from the Port Eliot attics. It will be the first time she has designed clothes since the dying days of the legendary London Biba store in the 1970s.
With no Glastonbury Festival to tidy up after this year, Michael Eavis will be on hand to tell behind-the-scenes tales, and Maria Alvarez and Rowan Pelling will present a homage to gothic women, featuring the work of Kate Bush and Alison Goldfrapp.
Artists Gavin Turk and Deborah Curtis will create The House of Fairy Tales, using puppets to explore the beauty, horror and wonder of those timeless stories. Running the full length of the festival, there will be puppet and sculpture workshops for children and adults.
Artist Wolfe Lenkiewicz and Nick Hackworth will curate a show entitled The End of Civilisation in the house’s big dining room, featuring works by more than 20 artists including a reworking by Jake and Dinos Chapman of Hell, which was destroyed in the Saatchi warehouse fire.
For the first time at Port Eliot, “the ultimate showgirl” Immodesty Blaize will perform two acts from her wonderful Burlesque repertoire – the Reverse Strip Tease and Miss Blaize ‘n’ Saddles on an 8ft rocking horse

By using even the
By using even the most general search engine like Google and Yahoo, you can find government job postings. And there are websites run by different branches of the military and agencies that post ads to find government jobs specific to their needs.
If you know which governmental entity you hope to work for, first try going directly to their agency website to find government job postings in that area. Then start with simple job title words to describe what you?re looking for ? accounting, medical, computer, janitor, etc. Be creative, though ? the federal government is very good at making up convoluted job titles for simple occupations! Using a ?wild card? character in your search ? an asterisk (*) will yield more results. If you enter ?scien*?, for example, you?ll retrieve entries for will fetch ?scien,? ?science,? ?sciences,? ?scientific,? and ?scientist.? Some job categories will offer just one or two listings, while others will yield many. When that happens, narrow the search with more specific terms ? ?computer science,? for example.
If you know the series or grade number of the government job you?re looking for, you can enter that as well.

To reduce exposure to allergens and lung irritants:
Check your local weather reports for air quality, including smog and pollen counts, before spending time out of doors. If outdoor air is polluted, keep windows closed. Exercise in early morning, before smog and pollen rise with the day’s heat. For local air hotlines, call 800-LUNG-USA.

Chances are you had a load
Chances are you had a load of sugar and/or salt last night and you’ll be retaining more water than a camel embarking on a trek across the Sahara. Consequently, you’ll have gained more pounds than you possibly could from the extra calories you ate. So don’t even think about stepping on the scales for 2 days.
Every day, but especially today you should aim for eating modest portions of healthy foods whenever you are hungry, stopping when you are satisfied rather than stuffed. More than ever today you need to feel in control. So no starvation rations or you’ll only set yourself up for a hunger-induced “clear out the cupboard” binge later on.
Normally it’s best not to skip breakfast but if you are still full from the previous day, it can wait. Just make sure you have a healthy snack ready for when hunger does strike.
Take time to enjoy your food today. Sometimes we hardly taste the food when we are eating too much, we eat it so quickly, trying to stop ourselves thinking too much as we shovel it in.

Fast Girls a delight
Fast Girls a delight

There are some fast girls performing in New Plymouth’s Vogeltown.
The New Plymouth Repertory Society kicked off its season of the play of that name in promising fashion on Thursday night.
Directed by Sharren Read and using the brilliant script by American Diana Amsterdam, Fast Girls is set in an apartment in Manhattan, although this interpretation sticks with Kiwi accents.
Lucy Lewis, played by Taryn Utiger, is a divorcee in her 30s, enjoying her freedom and nights on the town with young single men.
But her carefree lifestyle attracts the consternation of her visiting mother Mitzi, played by Christine King, and the envy of her best friend Abigail (Stacy Manketlow).
Meanwhile, there are plenty of unresolved issues with her former boyfriend Sidney (Nathan Eriwata).
The demands on four characters to carry a dialogue-heavy performance is never easy, but the lines are so witty that the flow will pick up as the cast relax into their roles

Article prompts tips for starting over in the new economy

A story I ran across was interesting to read, but there was something else about it that grabbed my attention.
Last Friday’s “Starting Over at 55″ feature in The New York Times detailed how a middle-aged former corporate marketing manager rebounded from a layoff and not being able to find work in the new economy. It was among the nation’s most e-mailed stories for the next few days.
There’s no surprise in this post-recession era that many people are searching for insight on the subject. Millions of Americans are facing what to do now that their well-traveled, comfortable professional roads have ended, forcing creativity to find new direction.
It’s not just the middle-aged set either, because reality says Americans across all spectrums are wondering what they should do and how to put talent, training, education and experience to work. As someone who has done it a few times, morphing through a couple of professional remakes in the name of sustainability and best use, I can say with emphasis it is not easy. I also can say, however, that when instinct or reality suggest there’s no other way, one needs a good road map.
Culled from personal experience — including victories, mistakes and occasional indifferent misdirection — here are five “starting over” tips for guidance:
* Stay in the same broad field of experience or talent, but take one or more steps in any direction to a new specific. In other words, if new homebuilding has been a profession, maybe consulting with existing homeowners on upgrades and maintenance makes sense now.
* Be smart, not safe. Starting over requires jumping off a cliff of sorts. One has to jump, but it’s wise to look first to see if a river flows down below.
* See the world as small, but yourself as big. Humility is, of course, always critical, but so is professional confidence.
* Spend more energy than capital. Starting over may require few dollars or many dollars, but neither will matter so much if those are outspent with energy — constant brainstorming, researching and benchmarking against others in the field.
* Don’t dream, but dare. Daring leads to action, while dreaming leads to delay. So avoid chasing dreams

Dildos have been manufactured
Dildos have been manufactured to be sold and used especially for female self pleasuring. They were not merely created to aid men in their sexual fantasies when they watch all those erotic movies. Erotic movies, however, are very informative when it comes to learning how to use dildos. Use a dildo to massage your clitoris and slide it in and out and around your vagina. Even better are the men, who possess the lingual skillfulness similar to a dildo but more importantly, they are selfless enough to aspire to that ability. Either way, these great female self pleasuring techniques will open up a whole new world of female self pleasuring ideas.

This is major bad news for companies
This is major bad news for companies specializing in Carnauba wax which must use large amounts of solvents to make the naturally rock hard Carnauba soft and pliable so that it can be used.
Many companies had to drop entire lines of car wax products; some had to re-engineer their products. There are some others who are ignoring the regulations until sanctions are imposed against them. There is a revolution taking place in the car wax industry and it?s about time!
Most of us grew up using Turtle Wax or some form of Carnauba Wax on our cars and I am no different. But, once I found out about the superiority of polymer based products like the PTFE based product from CarCareWizards.com I quickly became a big fan.
Now, don?t get me wrong, I enjoy cleaning and shining my car but when I can use a product that will last for 150 washes instead of 15 or 20, I have to go with the 150!
More on this in a minute, first let?s just cover some basics on how to apply car waxes and paint sealants.
These tips should be followed regardless of whether you are using car wax or a paint sealant:
First off, always work in a shaded area where the vehicle surface is not exposed to direct sunlight.

Sometimes when you have been dieting
Sometimes when you have been dieting for a while, you have lost a lot of weight, but you still have some fat in the midriff area. This can be frustrating for many women. You want to look your very best all the time and you may feel that a tummy tuck is the only way for you to achieve your goal.
You can get a stomach tuck these days very quickly. You will not have to be in the hospital for a long time. The usual period is a few days and then of course you will have to take it easy for a little while after you have your tummy tuck.
If dieting and exercising is not working for you, to loose the weight that you want to get rid of, then you may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck. This may be the only way for you to feel better about your body and your life.
